Johnny Schmitz' nickname was "Bear Tracks" which was inspired by his shuffle to the mound. After returning to the Cubs from the service in 1946, he led the NL in strikeouts and was named to the All-Star team. A noted Dodger killer (he won 18 lifetime against Brooklyn) he was traded to the Dodgers in 1951. In the neck of the jersey is the "MacGregor" label with the size, "42." Below this is a white felt patch with the name "Schmitz" in red chain stitch. Across the front of the jersey is the name "Dodgers" in script-style letters and on the back is the player number "19." Both the name and number are made of blue felt. The jersey shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
