The secret of Fernando Valenzuela's phenomenal success was "Fernando's Fadeaway" a screwball widely regarded as the best since Hubbell's. He won his first ten major league decisions and was the first rookie to win the Cy Young Award. In the neck of the jersey is the "Rawlings" label with the size "48" and below this is the "Adult" label. On the inside left front tail is the "Rawlings" label and adjacent is the flag tag reading "Set 1 1997." Across the front of the jersey is the name "Cardinals" in red on blue embroidered stitch. Going through the letter "C" is a gold embroidered bat with a red embroidered Cardinal perched on each end. On the back of the jersey is the name "Valenzuela." The player number "34" appears on both the left breast and on the back of the shirt. On the left sleeve is a black armband for Ken Boyer. The letters and numbers are made of red on blue tackle twill. The jersey shows wear and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
