Vern Stephens was one of the best homer-hitting shortstops. His glove was reliable but his bat made him a seven-time All-Star. Hitting behind Ted Williams for five years with the Red Sox, he formed half of the best one-two punch in the AL. In the neck of the jersey is the "Wilson" label and adjacent is the size tag, "44." On the inside left front tail is the year tag "48." Across the front of the jersey is the name "Red Sox" and on the back is the player number "5." Both the name and number are made of red on blue felt. The team name and number have been restored. There is some slight fraying on the letters and numbers. The shirt shows even wear throughout. The jersey shows game-use and with the exception of the restored team name and number, appears to have no other alterations of any kind.
