Willie Mays was nicknamed “The Say Hey Kid” and many consider him to be the greatest all-around player of all time. Mays won two MVP awards during his big league career and tied a record with twenty-four appearances in the All-Star Game. He ended his career with 660 career home runs. Several ball marks are visible on the right and back barrel. There is a moderate coat of pine tar on the upper barrel and around the center brand. The model number “S2” is stamped into the knob. Also appearing on the knob is the weight of the bat written in pencil. The S2 model was a favorite of Mays throughout his 23 year career. First ordered in April of 1954, Mays continued to order the model through his final season in 1973. Accompanied by a PSA/DNA LOA grading the bat a GU 9.
