Presented here is a true piece of New York Mets history and is the first jersey worn by 2021 Hall of Fame inductee Gil Hodges during the Mets inaugural season in 1962. This jersey was originally issued to Hodges in ‘62 when he wore the number “14” and has been photo-matched to Spring Training of the Mets first campaign. On the front left tail is the Spalding manufacturer’s tag with an attached flag tag reading “SET 1 1962”. Inside the collar is a strip tag reading “46 62 14” representing the size, year and player number embroidered in blue. Across the chest reads “Mets” and on the back is the number “46” both done in navy blue felt on orange tackle twill. On the left sleeve is the “NEW YORK WORLD’S FAIR” patch. Originally issued to Hodges in 1962, there is a number change on the back to “46” when it was reissued for subsequent seasons. The New York World’s Fair patch was added in 1964 when it was reissued to number 46 where it was likely worn in Spring Training. Hodges likely wore this jersey in 1962 and 1963. Separation to both shoulder seams is present as well as separation to the back numerals. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows outstanding use with extended organizational wear. Accompanied by a Photo-Match.com LOA confirming the match.
