Wisconsin Badger Alan ??Ameche won the Heisman Trophy in 1954, the first for the Badger program. Ameche is one of the few Wisconsin football players to have his number retired and was enshrined on the Camp Randall Stadium facade. Ameche was inducted into the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame in 1967, the College Football Hall of Fame in 1975, and the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame in 2004. Presented is the only known Ameche Wisconsin game-used helmet extant. A Rawlings manufactured suspension helmet with the size “7 1/4” stamped on the inside and outside ears. On the inner left ear is a piece of tape reading the player number “35” in period faded black marker. The helmet shows heavy game-use throughout the shell and on the back is residue from tape priorly applied. A beautiful vintage piece of college football history.
