Gene Shue was one of the top guards of the early days of the NBA and an influential figure in the development of basketball. A two-time All-NBA player, Shue was also an NBA All-Star five consecutive times. After his successful playing career, he became a long-serving coach, twice winning NBA Coach of the Year. Inside the right button path area is the MacGregor manufacturer’s tag size “42”. Adjacent is a heavily faded strip tag and a “Griswold” distributor’s tag. On the left chest is the player number “21” and across the back reads “DETROIT PISTONS”. All numbering and lettering is done in red on white tackle twill. Minor condition issues including some thinning in the fabric and staining are present but do not detract from the original beauty of this jacket. The zipper was period reinforced and is functional. This jacket is properly tagged, was presented to us as player worn and shows wear.
