The Pittsburgh Pipers were one of the ABA's inaugural franchises in 1967 and captured the first ABA Championship during the 1967-68 season and remains Pittsburgh's only professional basketball championship. Despite their success, the Pipers franchise left Pittsburgh after their 1968 ABA Championship and moved to Minnesota and became the Minnesota Pipers. Despite making the playoffs the following season, the Pipers moved back to Pittsburgh after only one season. Presented here is an amazing fleece warm-up jacket worn in both cities. Inside the neck is the Wilson manufacturer’s tag size “44” with washing instructions. On the left chest is a beautiful “ABA CHAMPIONS 1967-68” patch embroidered in orange, blue and white. On the left sleeve is the player number “44” in orange tackle twill and on the right sleeve are three orange on blue tackle twill stars. Across the back reads “PITTSBURGH PIPERS 1967-68” with “PITTSBURGH” on a plate. This plate has been added on top of a plate that originally read Minnesota and when the team relocated back to Pittsburgh it was added which indicates this was worn for multiple seasons. Expected vintage aging and minor staining is present however it does not affect this beautiful relic. This warm-up jacket is properly tagged, was presented to us as player worn and shows wear.
