Hall of Famer Willie McCovey belted 521 home runs and collected more than 2,200 hits during his 22-year career. McCovey earned National League MVP honors in 1969 and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on the first ballot in 1986 and has his number 44 retired by the San Francisco Giants. Inside the shell’s top padding the player number “44” is handwritten in faded black marker. The player number “44” is also written inside the shell on a white strip tag and underneath the bill in period faded marker. Across the front is a Giants team “SF” decal. McCovey signed the bill of the helmet in black marker with the added inscription “HOF 1986” and in our opinion the signature rates a 9. This helmet is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and shows wear with scuffing throughout and deterioration to the inside padding. Accompanied by an ALOA from JSA.
