Ozzie Smith known as "The Wizard" played shortstop a NL record 2,511 career games at the position. He won the NL Gold Glove Award for play at shortstop for 13 consecutive seasons. A 15-time All-Star, he accumulated 2,460 hits during his career, and won the NL Silver Slugger Award as the best-hitting shortstop in 1987. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame on the first ballot in 2002. On the inside front left tail is the Rawlings manufacturer’s tag. Attached is a flag tag reading the size “42” and a strip tags reading “1 96 2”. Across the front reads “Cardinals” embroidered in red on blue script style writing beneath the team’s “birds on a bat” logo in gold, red and blue embroidery. Adjacent below and on the back is the player number “1”. Across the back on a white nameplate is the player name “O. SMITH”. All numbering and lettering is done in red on blue tackle twill. On the left sleeve is the “BUSCH STADIUM 30TH” anniversary patch. Smith signed the front of the jersey in black marker and in our opinion the signature rates a strong 8. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows appropriate use.
