Jack Dempsey was one of the great figures of the “golden age of sports” in the 1920s, a ruthless fighter known for brutal early-round knockouts. He became heavyweight champion in 1919. Offered is an autographed restaurant menu from Dempsey’s restaurant in New York City. Dempsey signed the cover of the menu in blue ink with the added inscription “To Woody Franks” and in our opinion the signature rates a near 9. Woody Franks was the leader of one of Southern California’s top performing dance bands in the 1940s-50s. Also included is a black and white photo of Dempsey personalized to both “Mr. & Mrs. Woody Franks” along with the date “5-25-65” and in our opinion the signature rates an 8.
