"Mr. Football" Doak Walker was truly one of the greatest running backs and all-around football players in college football history. The three-year All-American won the 1948 Heisman Trophy before taking his skills to the NFL, where he earned four All-Pro selections and led the Detroit Lions to consecutive NFL titles in 1952 and 1953. Walker's career culminated with elections to both the Pro and College Football Hall of Fames, but his name lives on with the Doak Walker Award, presented annually to the nation's best running back. On the inside rear right tail is the MacGregor manufacturers tag size “46”. On the left sleeve is the incredibly rare “DETROIT 1701 1951 250TH BIRTHDAY FESTIVAL” patch. This patch was only worn by the Detroit Tigers and Lions in 1951. Beneath this on the sleeve the player number “37” appears in grey tackle twill. The manufacturers tag on the inside front button path of the pants has been removed but the Lippman’s distributors tag and tag with washing instructions remain. This sweater and pair of pants are properly tagged, were presented to us as sideline-worn and show wear.
