The 1980 United States Olympic Hockey Team will forever remain one of the greatest sporting events of all-time. Sports Illustrated selected the team's victory over the Soviet Union en route to winning the gold medal as the No. 1 sports moment of the 20th century. It was a magical ride that happened amidst the backdrop of the Iranian hostage crisis and Soviet invasion of Afghanistan - events that made the now fabled "Miracle on Ice" even more impactful on American history. Offered is a beautifully hand crafted and painted plaque signed by the “Miracle On Ice” team. The plaque measures approximately 10” x 11” and features more than 20 signatures in bold black sharpie, with one of the strongest being Hall of Fame Head Coach Herb Brooks. Six olympic rings are painted across the top and across the bottom reads “USA” painted in red. Handwritten on the center in black marker is “1980 HOCKEY TEAM”. In addition to Brooks, the signatures also include Mike Eruzione, Jim Craig, Jack O'Callahan, Mike Ramsey, Rob McClanahan, Steve Christoff, Buzz Schneider and many others. The signatures are all done in black marker and in our opinion the signature rate between 7-9 with the majority on the stronger side. This plaque has remained in beautiful vintage condition with only minor surface staining and chipping to the bottom. This plaque was originally signed at a team banquet dinner before the team started the Olympics and is accompanied by a photo of Herb Brooks holding this plaque with our consignor’s family. A rare piece of hockey history that was signed before the Americans’ triumphant Gold Medal run. Accompanied by an ALOA from JSA.
