At the height of World War II, Babe Ruth just lending his name helped the United States war effort a great deal. Anything endorsed by the Bambino gained quite a bit of steam. Ruth took to the field for the country by participating in highly publicized events to help raise money for the war effort. Offered is a Type 1 first generation photo of Babe Ruth and Walter Johnson shaking hands before a game in 1942 at Yankee Stadium. The photo measures approximately 6 ¾” x 9”. Handwritten on the photo is the name of the players and umpires as well as the date of “August 23, 1942” as well as “Army - Navy -Relife Funds”. Handwritten on the back is “Walter Johnson - Benny Bengough - Umpire Billy Evans Babe Ruth - at New York Aug 23, 1942 - army - navy relief funds”. Staining is seen on the back and general aging is present including a minor tear in the bottom left corner but does not affect the displayability. An increasingly rare Type 1 photo of two of the games all-time greats. Accompanied by a PSA/DNA LOA.
