This Goldsmith manufactured Official League baseball has been dual-signed by Hall of Famer Walter Johnson on the sweet spot and on the side panel, the signature of Tom Clark who was the Attorney General of the United States at the time. Francis Fitzgerald who grew up in the Washington, DC area, was a member of the metropolitan Police Boys Club. A member of each of these clubs were chosen for the opportunity to meet and have lunch with Walter Johnson and the Attorney General of the U.S., Tom Clark, at the Justice Dept. He was presented a dual-signed baseball in 1948. With a light coating of shellac, in our opinion Johnson’s signature on the sweet spot rates a 5 and Tom Clark’s signature rates a 3. Although Clark’s signature is on the side panel, Johnson’s signature can be displayed as a single-signed baseball. A great story and a great piece of history. Accompanied by an ALOA from JSA.
