Mark McGwire put the national sports spotlight on baseball during the 1998 MLB season as the home run chase unfolded towards Roger Maris' single-season record of 61. McGwire set a then major league single-season home run record of 70. McGwire hit the historic 70th home run on September 27th off of Carl Pavano of the Montreal Expos in the 7th inning. Offered is a game-used baseball from that notable game signed by both McGwire and Pavano. Rawlings manufactured ONL Coleman baseball that shows game-use with scuffing and even toning. Handwritten on the sweet spot is “Sept. 27, 1998 Game Use”. McGwire signed the North panel in blue ink with the added inscription “70” and in our opinion the signature rates a strong 8. Pavano signed the South panel also in blue ink and in our opinion the signature rates a near 8. Accompanied by a Full LOA from both JSA and PSA.
