This Presidential document is dated July 3rd, 1852 and appoints Joseph Smith “Major in the Seventh Regiment of Infantry”. Fillmore signed on the appropriate line in black ink and in our opinion the signature rates a vintage 7. Fillmore’s Secretary of War signed next to Fillmore and the document has the proper “UNITED STATES WAR OFFICE” seal that has faded. Age appropriate fading to the ink and document is present. Accompanied by a LOA from JSA.
