Kirk Gibson’s pinch-hit two-out walk off home run in Game One of the 1988 World Series remains one of the most iconic moments in baseball history. Gibson was matched up against Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley, who had not given up a home run in over a month. Gibson worked the count full and the legendary broadcaster Vin Scully delivered the call of "High fly ball into right field. She is gone! In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened." The Dodgers ultimately went on to win the World Series in five games and remains their last championship. Eckersley later became the first of only two pitchers in Major League history to have both a 20-win season and a 50-save season in a career. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004. Offered is a piece of baseball history that has been displayed at Dodger Stadium, the jersey Eckersley was wearing during the historic Gibson home run. On the inside front left tail is the Rawlings manufacturer’s tag size “44” with washing instructions. Attached is a flag tag reading “SET 1 1988” and a strip tag reading “T” embroidered in green. On the left sleeve is the A’s “Elephant” team logo patch and on the right sleeve is the official “1988 World Series” patch with a “Rawlings” logo embroidered below. Across the chest reads “Oakland” in script style writing. Adjacent below and on the back is the player number “43”. These are done in green on yellow tackle twill. Across the back on a grey nameplate is the player name “ECKERSLEY” in green tackle twill. Eckersley signed on the back of the jersey in black marker and in our opinion the signature rates an 8. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows excellent use. Accompanied by a LOA from JSA, a Photo-Match.com letter confirming the match, an A’s and Baseball Hall of Fame LOA’s, a Dodgers letter acknowledging the jersey will be displayed in Dodger Stadium and a picture of the jersey hanging in the stadium. A true one-of-one piece from one of baseball’s most memorable moments.
