Mickey Mantle played his entire 18 year career for the New York Yankees. He won 3 American League MVP titles and played in 16 All-Star games. Mantle appeared in 12 World Series, winning 7 of them. He still holds the records for most World Series home runs (18), RBIs (40), runs (42), walks (43), extra-base hits (26), and total bases (123). He is also the career leader in walk-off home runs, with a combined 13 in regular season and postseason play (12 regular, 1 postseason). He won the Triple Crown Award in 1956. He is regarded by many to be the greatest switch hitter of all time and one of the greatest players in baseball history. Mantle was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1974. This Mickey Mantle professional model bat is uncracked and shows evidence of outstanding use. Some checking on the back barrel, from repeated ball contact, has been repaired. The finish has been brushed with a light coat of urethane. Many ball marks and ball stitch impressions are visible on the right and left barrel. Also visible on the bat are cleat marks and blue bat rack streaks. Noted is this K55 model is not a pro stock bat. Pro stock models were team ordered by the Yankees for general team use at the minor league levels and in spring training. Referring to copies of Mantle’s Professional Bat Ordering Records (PBOR) this model was ordered by Mantle on May 28th during the 1953 season. His PBOR records six 35 inch bats with a weight of 33 ounces. At 35 inches and 32.1 ounces today, this offered bat is consistent with Mantle’s May 28th order. This bat exhibits medium to heavy use and possesses identifiable player use characteristics. This historic bat from one of baseball’s greatest players was presented to us as game-used and has been graded a GU 8.5 by PSA/DNA.
