Carl Lewis was America’s most famous and dominant track athlete during the 1980s and early 1990s. Lewis won 10 Olympic medals, including nine gold and was voted "World Athlete of the Century" by the International Association of Athletics Federations and "Sportsman of the Century" by the International Olympic Committee. “Mizuno” manufactured “RunBird” track shoes. On the tongue of each shoe reads, “RunBird ATHLETIC FOOTWEAR Mizuno”. On the heel of each shoe reads, “RunBird”. On the outside heel area of each shoe, “C. Lewis” is embroidered in pink stitching. Lewis signed the left shoe in pen with the added inscription, “100 Meter Seoul” and signed the right shoe with an illegible inscription. In our opinion, the autographs rate a 6 overall. These shoes were sourced from Lewis’ hometown of Willingboro, New Jersey. Lewis wore Mizuno RunBird’s during the 1988 Summer Olympics, but it is clear these aren’t the correct colors during the infamous 100-Meter gold medal race against Ben Johnson. It is our opinion that these shoes were worn during one of his preliminary events. These shoes are properly tagged, were presented to us as race-worn and in our opinion show appropriate use. Accompanied by an LOA from JSA and an additional LOA.
