Roger Maris was given the 1961 American League MVP award for hitting 61 home runs with 141 RBI. This 10k gold-filled, vintage MVP presentation lighter has a New York Yankees “NY” logo engraved on it with text above that reads, “1961 NEW YORK YANKEES WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS”. On the other side of the lighter reads, “ROGER MARIS #9 - HOME RUN KING - 61 HOME RUNS - MAJOR LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE YEAR”. This lighter appears to be from that era and the only reference we can find for a Maris gold lighter is the one he gave to Sal Durante, who is the man that caught Maris’ 61st record-breaking home run. While we are not saying that this is the exact lighter, it appears to be our only point of reference.
