After leading Michigan State to the NCAA title in 1979 and being named the tournament's MVP, Erving “Magic” Johnson was the first player selected in the NBA Draft and became one of the most mesmerizing guards in NBA history. His style of play, passing flair and ability to control a game from start to finish was second to none. The five-time NBA Champion was a three-time NBA Finals MVP, three-time regular season MVP, a 12-time All-Star and was named to the All-NBA First Team nine times. When he retired, he ranked first in career assists in the NBA. Johnson was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History and was inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame in 2002. Centered on the front tail is the “Tiernan” manufacturer’s tag. Across the front reads “LAKERS”. Adjacent below and on back is the player number “32”. Across the back is the player name “JOHNSON”. All lettering and numbering is done in purple on white tackle twill. “Tiernan” manufactured player-specific Lakers jerseys from the 1960s to the mid-to-late 1980s. This jersey is a smaller variety of what Johnson wore later in his career, indicating this jersey was custom tailored for Johnson during his early playing days. The jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows appropriate use. Accompanied by a LOA (incorrectly dated) from former Los Angeles Lakers employee Steve Ross who states he obtained the jersey directly from the team’s equipment staff.
