The 1984 NBA finals were one not to be forgotten. It marked the long-awaited rematch of Lakers vs. Celtics after their rivalry in 1979 with Magic Johnson and Larry Bird entering the league. It was a thrilling series going back and forth both by wins and losses as well as geography. The series had a very odd schedule entirely due to the whims of broadcast television. The schedule was so abnormal that Celtics coach and Hall of Famer Red Auerbach’s complaint to the league led to the current “2-3-2” NBA Finals schedule format. There is no doubt that the star of the series was the legend himself, Larry Bird. “Larry Legend” earned Finals MVP and league MVP honors after averaging 27 points and 14 rebounds. It was not just the players who felt the heat, but anyone inside the Boston Garden as the broken air conditioning system caused temperatures to rise into the 90s. The Celtics ended up taking the series in the in the seventh and final game 111-102. This size 11, 14k gold ring weighs 39 grams. It was presented to Red Auerbach’s personal attorney, Bob Richards. The top panel reads "BOSTON CELTICS WORLD CHAMPIONS" surrounding a green synthetic sapphire clover with a 1/2-carat round-cut diamond in the center. The right panel reads “RICHARDS” in relief above the casted image of the Celtics mascot, a basketball with “XV” commemorating the franchise’s 15th Championship and a banner that reads “PRIDE”. The left panel reads “1984” along with the official NBA logo enameled in green, laurelled leaves and a banner that reads “TEAMWORK”. This scarce and desirable ring is in MINT condition and comes in a black velour box.
