Tom Meschery's interest in poetry and literature earned him the nickname of “Renaissance Man” among his Philadelphia and San Francisco Warriors teammates, but his ferociousness and intensity on the court made him known by others as “The Mad Russian.” Meschery averaged 12.9 points and 8.5 rebounds for his Warriors career and in 1967 he became the first player in franchise history to have his jersey retired. This "EMERSON FLAG MFG. CO. SAN FRANCISCO" manufactured banner hung in the Oakland Arena after the Warriors retired Tom Meschery’s uniform number. It was taken down during renovations and given back to Meschery. Measuring 47” x 34”, this retired number banner is in the shape of a basketball jersey. Heavy-constructed gold nylon material with “WARRIORS 14 TOM MESCHERY” on front in blue nylon letters and numbers. EX-NM overall, accompanied by a LOA from Tom Meschery.
