“SPALDING” manufactured ONL Giles baseball. The ball has been signed by 24 members of the 1969 Pittsburgh Pirates. Notable signatures include Hall of Famers Roberto Clemente (1969 All-Star & Gold Glove) and Bill Mazeroski. Additional signatures include: Dock Ellis, Steve Blass, Chuck Hartenstein, Richie Hebner, Carl Taylor, Freddie Patek, Bruce Del Canton, Manny Sanguillen, Bob Veale, Bob Robertson, Ron Kline, Bob Moose, Matty Alou (1969 All-Star), Jose Pagan, Al Oliver, Jim Shellenback, Ron Davis, Gene Alley and coach Vern Law. Also featured on the ball is NL Umpire Paul Pryor. All signatures are done in blue ink, except Pryor who signed in red, and in our opinion rate a strong 7 overall. The ball is in EX condition. Accompanied by a LOA from JSA and an additional LOA from MLB Umpire Dave Phillips.
David Robert Phillips is a retired umpire, first with the American League from 1971-1999, then with both leagues from 2001-2002. Dave had the honor of working four World Series (1976, 1982, 1987—crew chief, and 1993—crew chief) and two All-Star Games (1977 and 1990). Offered here, as Lots #225 through #237, are autographed baseballs which Dave himself personally collected during his tenure as a Major League umpire.
