On September 9, 1996, the New York Yankees hosted the Baltimore Orioles at home in Game 1 of the 1996 American League Championship Series. With the game tied in the bottom of the 8th and one out, the AL Rookie of the Year, Derek Jeter, stepped to the plate against hard-throwing reliever Armando Benitez. Jeter swung at the first offering and sent it deep into right field, chasing Orioles outfielder Tony Tarasco back to the wall. As Tarasco leaped to make the grab, Jeffrey Maier an eleven-year old Yankees fan, stuck his glove out into the field of play and brought the ball into the stands, ruling it a home run. Tarasco pleaded his case with outfield umpire Richie Garcia, but to no avail. The call stood and the Yankees would go on to win Game 1 in 11 innings. Quite a legacy for an eleven-year old kid named Jeffrey Maier. “MIZUNO” manufactured black leather glove used to reel in Jeter’s home run in that historic Game 1. On the wrist strap reads “MIZUNO” in yellow along with “MAIER” written in black marker. On the bottom of the outer webbing is the Mizuno “M” logo also in yellow. The glove is properly tagged and was presented to us as event-worn. Accompanied by a LOA from Jeffrey Maier along with multiple photomatches of him wearing the glove.
