The All-American Red Heads were one of the first professional women's basketball teams. In 1936, "Ole" Olson started a barnstorming team which would play around the country until 1986.The name of the team came from Olson's wife, who owned a number of beauty salons in the south. They played by men's rules and were a huge success with the audience. They were so successful as an exhibition team that they fostered two other teams; the Ozark Hillbillies and the Famous Red Heads. They were inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2012. Inside the rear collar of the jersey top is the “Arkansas Sporting Goods” manufacturer’s tag. Across the front is “REDHEADS” done in white tackle twill on a red nameplate. On back is player number “9” done in white on red tackle twill with a blue embroidered border. Also on back is player name “BROOKS” done in white tackle twill on a red nameplate. There is a name change on both the front and back. Adjacent to the inner zipper inside the skirt/shorts is the size “28” label. Attached is a large flag tag with “James Bicknell” written in black ink. On front of the skirt/shorts are two white tackle twill stars with a blue embroidered border; the first has “OLSON’S” and the second “ORIGINALS”, both embroidered in blue chain stitch. The uniform is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion, shows excellent use. Other than what is mentioned, there appear to be no further alterations of any kind. Also included is a large, circular travel bag measuring 23” around and 6” deep. On front is “Moore’s All-American Redheads” embroidered in red chain stitch against a felt background. Zipper is fully functional. The bag shows wear, EX+ overall.
