John McEnroe, "The Bad Boy of Tennis" was known for his temper. This former #1 tennis player made the phrase “You can’t be serious!” famous. In 1983, McEnroe contacted the Checker Motors Corporation to have this Marathon A12E with 60,000 miles on it (at the time) customized to his specs, including a full bar, TV, opera windows and a sun roof in the rear seat area. In 1992, it was flooded in Florida as a result of Hurricane Andrew and then purchased by one of the owners of Checker Motors and brought to the factory for a complete restoration. The rear TV antenna on the trunk remains which is now used for the radio. There is no longer a TV or back bar. Driven by a Chevy V8, this black limo has power steering, power brakes, a CD player, air conditioning among its many features. In July of 2012, it won top prize at a car show in Indiana. The odometer reads 35,000+ miles, obviously turned over at least once and possibly more. The car runs great, and features tinted rear and side glass. It has been the highlight of parades, weddings and special occasions with the rear sun roof allowing two people to stand up through simultaneously. This treasured collectible can be used practically or a show piece. Winning bidder responsible for all transporting, shipping and handling fees of the car as well as all title, registration, DMV and any/all associated fees with the car. Grey Flannel Auctions will not be responsible for any fees whatsoever in transporting, registering or insuring this car. Please inquire as to the transporting fees or let us know if you have your own means. Accompanied by a letter from the Checker Motor Corporation on company letterhead stating this car was customized for Johnny Mac in 1983 and detailing the history of the limo. Further accompanied by the Carfax report and original Chassis and Body Service manual.
