During his 22-year playing career with the St. Louis Cardinals, Stan "The Man" won seven National League batting championships and established himself as one of the game's greatest hitters. He retired after the 1963 season with a career batting average of .331 and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1969. In February of 2004, the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame announced plans to start a fundraising campaign to construct a life-size bronze statue based on of Amadee Wohlschlaeger’s “The Boy & The Man”, a drawing featuring Musial signing an autograph for a young fan. Platinum Home Run Level donors who pledged $10,000 or more received a miniature version of the bronze statue. On April 2, 2005 the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame unveiled and dedicated the life-size version of “The Boy & The Man”, a cornerstone attraction of the Legends Walkway. This limited edition statue was one of 25 produced for Platinum Home Run Level donors. The bronze trophy stands 18” tall and weighs 28.5 lbs. It features Stan Musial in his Cardinals uniform with his bat resting against his backside, signing an autograph for a young boy. The statue sits atop a green marble oval base that measures 12-1/4” x 10” x 1”. The bronze base features the name of the original artist, “AMADEE ‘63”; the sculptor, “H.WEBER ‘02”, and “19/25”. The statue is in NRMT condition. Due to it’s size, weight and fragility, this lot will require additional shipping charges.
