Orel put together one of the best single seasons in pitching history in 1988. That year, he led the league in wins (23), innings (267), and complete games (15). He finished the season with a record 59 consecutive scoreless innings pitched, breaking the mark held by former Dodger Don Drysdale. (He would then add 8 more scoreless innings in his next start-Game 1 of the NLCS, but the postseason innings do not count toward the record.) He also won his first Gold Glove. He was unanimously selected as the Cy Young Award winner, with a record of 23–8 and a 2.26 ERA. This jersey was worn during that historic record setting 59 consecutive scoreless innings streak of 1988. Inside the rear collar is the “Rawlings” manufacturer’s tag with wash instructions and jersey size “44”. Attached is a flag tag with “SET 1 1988”. Across the front is “Dodgers” in blue tackle twill. Player number “55” appears on front in red tackle twill and on back in blue on white twill. Player name “HERSHISER” appears across the back in blue on white tackle twill. On the right sleeve is “Rawlings” embroidered in blue. The jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as worn during the streak and in our opinion, shows excellent use. Accompanied by a LOA from Orel Hershiser.
