With his signing by the New York Jets in 1965, Joe Namath gave the young American Football League instant credibility, and the strength to eventually merge with the older NFL. With his charisma and flamboyant style, "Broadway Joe" was a public relations dream for the Jets and the AFL. Namath was not just appearance but also performed on the field. Entering Super Bowl III against the Baltimore Colts, the Jets were big underdogs. Namath once again provided the effort and leadership for New York. In a superior performance, he threw for 206 yards and the Jets upset the Colts 16-7. Namath was named MVP of the Super Bowl. In 13 seasons he recorded over 27,000 yards passing and threw 173 touchdowns. Namath was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985. On the left front tail of this light green mesh home jersey is the “Champion” manufacturer’s tag with jersey size “L” and wash instructions. Player number “12” appears on front and back in white painted on numbers and on both sleeves in green painted on numbers. Player name “NAMATH” appears on back in white painted on block letters on a light green nameplate. The crotch piece has been removed from the bottom of the shirt leaving remnants on both the front and rear tails. There is a heavily faded signature on the back number “2”. The jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion, shows appropriate use. Accompanied by a LOA from JSA for the signature. Other than what is mentioned, there appear to be no further alterations of any kind.
