Left-handed pitcher Bill Lee’s outrageous personality on and off the field earned him the nickname “Spaceman”. In 1975, Lee won 17 regular season games for the Boston Red Sox on the way to winning the AL East. In the AL Championship Series, Boston would face the Oakland Athletics, reigning World Series Champions (‘72, ‘73, ‘74), for the right to advance to the 1975 Fall Classic. The reigning champs seemed ripe to be overthrown after their ace pitcher, Catfish Hunter, signed with the rival New York Yankees prior to the start of the 1975 season. Boston outscored the A’s 18-7 in a three-game sweep and the Sox won the franchise’s ninth AL pennant. This size 10.75, 10k gold players ring weighs 36 grams and was presented to Bill “Spaceman” Lee after he and the Boston Red Sox won the 1975 American League pennant. The top panel reads “BOSTON RED SOX - AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPIONS” surrounding a .50-carat round-cut diamond atop a red synthetic? stone. The left panel is engraved with the player name “LEE” above Boston’s ”hanging sox” logo and the player number “37”. The right panel is engraved “1975” along with Boston’s “B” logo and “BOSTON 3 OAKLAND 0”. The inside of the ring is stamped “BALFOUR 10K”. This rare ring is in NRMT condition with light wear.
