During his freshman year at St. John’s University, Chris Mullin averaged 16.6 points per game (also setting the school freshman record for points scored). In his subsequent three years for the Redmen, he would be named Big East Player of the Year three times, named to the All-America team three times, play for the gold medal-winning 1984 Olympic team, receive the 1985 Wooden Award, USBWA College Player of the Year and lead his team to the 1985 Final Four. Mullin finished his career as the Redmen's all-time leading scorer. He also holds the distinction of being one of only two players in history to win the Haggerty Award (given to the best college player in the New York City area) three times (1983–1985). NBA Hall of Fame, Class of 2011. On the left front tail of the red mesh road jersey is the “Sand-Knit” manufacturer’s tag with jersey size “44”Across the front is “ST. JOHNS”. Player number “20” appears on both the front and back. All numbers and letters are done in white on navy blue tackle twill. Inside the rear waistband of the shorts is the “Sand-Knit” manufacturer’s tag with size “34”. Player number “20” is written in black ink. Down the left side is “SJU” done in blue on white tackle twill. The uniform shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. It is accompanied by a letter of provenance which states, in part, “I obtained Chris Mullin’s final four game used jersey and shorts directly from Chris’ college roommate, also an employee of the St. John’s basketball team. It was given to him in the locker room after their loss to Georgetown”.
