In 1972, Willie Mays was traded to the Mets where he played a season and a half before retiring, appearing in 133 games. The Mets honored him on September 25, 1973, (Willie Mays' Night) where he thanked the New York fans. He finished his career in the 1973 World Series. Mays retired after the 1973 season with a lifetime batting average of .302 and 660 home runs. His lifetime total of 7,095 outfield fielding putouts remains the major league record. Mays is the only Major League player to have hit a home run in every inning from the 1st through the 16th. He finished his career with a record 22 extra-inning home runs. Manuf: Adirondack, Model: M33 (stamped on the handle), Length: 35 in, Weight: 33.4 oz, Wood: Ash, Condition: Uncracked. Player number “24” is written on the knob end in black marker. Mays has signed the bat on the front and right barrel adding the inscription “Best Wishes NY Mets 7 October 1973” in black marker rating a 7-8. Overall: Light use. Accompanied by a LOA from PSA/DNA as well as a LOA from JSA for the signature and inscription. This bat is quite possibly one of the last bats used by Mays in the big leagues.
