Bill Lee’s outrageous personality on and off the field earned him the nickname “Spaceman”. Inside the rear collar is the “McAuliffe” manufacturer’s tag with the size “44” tag embroidered directly below. On the center, front tail are two tags, the “1977” year tag and a wash instructions tag. Across the front is “BOSTON”. On the back is the player number “37”. All numbers and letters are done in red on navy blue tackle twill. The jersey shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. It is accompanied by an LOA from the team’s former batboy that states, in part, “I was an employee of the Boston Red Sox from 1972 to 1980 as a batboy and clubhouse attendant…I was given this 1977 Bill Lee #37 road shirt by the equipment manager”.
