This cap comes to us from the collection of Cincinnati Reds pitcher Tom Acker. This style road cap was worn by the Reds from 1958 through 1966. Acker was a member of the team from 1958-59. The “Wilson” date code (AZC) has the manufacture date of January 1958. It is possible that this cap was a carry over worn in 1959 but more likely worn in 1958. On the inner sweatband is the “Wilson” manufacturer’s tag. Adjacent is size “7-3/8” stamped in black along with the date code “AZC”. The size flag tag also appears under the sweat band. Under the brim is player number “40” stamped in black. The cap shows good game-use with sweat staining and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
