The 1986 NY Mets were a confident team, to say the very least. During spring training, manager Davey Johnson said to his players that they were not only going to win but that they would dominate. The Mets would win a team-record 108 games that season and go on to defeat the Boston Red Sox in the World Series including the one of the most famous games in baseball history, “Game 6”. Vin Scully's call of the play would quickly become an iconic one to baseball fans, with the normally calm Scully growing increasingly excited, “…So the winning run is at second base, with two outs, three and two to Mookie Wilson. A little roller up along first... behind the bag! It gets through Buckner! Here comes Knight, and the Mets win it!!”. Chills, every time. “Mazz”, as he was known, was a part of that raucous bunch. Just over a foot tall at the highest flag, the trophy features a gold crown atop an arc centerpiece over a silver baseball, surrounded by 26 gold flags with black lettering on stanchions, one for each Major League team. The two World Series teams' press pins (Mets and Red Sox) are mounted on the 7" diameter black base, in front of the silver baseball. The surrounding gold band reads "World Series Champions, NY METS 1986 LEE MAZZILLI". There is a Balfour manufacturer's sticker underneath the base. In overall EX+ overall condition with some tarnishing and scuffing.
