Jim "Catfish" Hunter was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1987. . Before and after his induction, Hunter spoke highly of his experiences with both the Athletics and Yankees and his appreciation for both team owners, Charlie Finley and George Steinbrenner. For this reason, he refused to choose a team and thus the plaque depicts him with no insignia on the cap. On the left front tail is the “Wilson” manufacturer’s tag with wash instructions and jersey size “46”. Adjacent is a white strip tag with “76 1” indicating jersey year and set, respectively. Inside the rear collar is a white strip tag with player name “Hunter” embroidered in navy blue chain stitch. On the left breast is the team interlocking “NY” logo done in navy blue tackle twill which has been restored with a period “NY”. Player number “29” appears on back also in navy blue tackle twill. Inside the rear waistband of the home pinstripe pants is the “Wilson” manufacturer’s tag with wash instructions and size “34”. Adjacent is a strip tag with “Hunter 29 76 2 23” in navy blue chain stitch indicating player name, number, year, set and inseam, respectively. The uniform shows game-use and other than what is mentioned appears to have no further alterations of any kind.
