Munson remains an often-mentioned “exceptions” candidate for the HOF, as he most certainly was headed to Cooperstown when his life was cut tragically short by his plane crash in 1979. Single-signed Munson baseballs remain increasingly sought after, often forged, and extraordinarily scarce in any condition. Here is arguably the finest in existence, consisting of a beautiful blue ink signature on the SS of a white, OAL MacPhail baseball. What makes this better than its flawless description? It was acquired by and belonged to Munson’s teammate, Mickey Rivers, and comes with a TLS signed by Rivers attesting to the ball’s origin, written on Rivers’ stationery. NM overall, further accompanied by a LOA from JSA.
