This 1954-55 Championship jacket was owned and worn by Cecil Mosenson during his tenure as head coach of Philadelphia's Overbrook High School basketball team. Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain was a member of this Championship high school team in 1954. Because Chamberlain was a very tall child, already measuring 6' 11" when he entered Overbrook High School, he had a natural advantage against his peers; he soon was renowned for his scoring talent, his physical strength and his shot blocking abilities. According to ESPN, Chamberlain was "scary, flat-out frightening... before he came along, most basketball players were mortal-sized men. Chamberlain changed that." It was also in this period of his life when his three life-long nicknames "Wilt the Stilt", "Goliath", and his favorite, "The Big Dipper", were allegedly coined. On the back inside collar is the “PEARSON” manufacturers tag. On the front right breast is “O,” “City Champs,” and “’54-‘55” in black, orange, and white chenille. Across the back is “OVERBROOK” in orange felt lettering. Accompanied by a LOA from Cecil Mosenson, Chamberlain’s high school coach.
