The St. Louis Spirits were a two year franchise, 1974-75 and 1975-76. With this team, the players jackets were interchangeable and did not have their respective numbers sewn on or even written in. In the 25 years we have been around, we have never seen this style jacket with a player number. The radio announcer for the Spirits on KMOX 1120 AM was Bob Costas, who also owns an exact duplicate of this jacket. It originates from the ABA Spirits trainer. Inside the front snaps is the “Rawlings” manufacturer’s tag with wash instructions and jacket size “42”. Attached is a white label with “2” LONGER”. The manufacturer and location of the tags can be confirmed in the image of Maurice Lucas seen on this page. Across the back is “Spirits of St. Louis” beautifully done in large silver sparkle on black tackle twill. The jacket shows wear and appears to have no alterations of any kind. It is accompanied by a LOA from the Spirits trainer.
