Two-time NBA Champion Dick Barnett was hardly a stranger to success by the time he helped the Knicks to their first ever title in 1970. He was an All-American player for all three of his varsity seasons at Tennessee A & I (now Tennessee State University), leading his team to three consecutive NAIA National Championships and collecting two Championship MVP nods for his play in 1958 and 1959. He was a top draft choice of the Syracuse Nationals in 1959, and played with the team until 1962 when he jumped ship from the NBA to play for the Cleveland Pipers of the American Basketball League. In his only season in the ABL, Barnett led the Pipers to a championship and by the following year he was back in the NBA with the Los Angeles Lakers. But Barnett was best known for his nine seasons with the New York Knicks. While in the Big Apple he picked up the nickname “Fall Back Baby,” which his teammates often heard coming out of his mouth. It meant "this jump shot is good, so get back on defense." In fact, the way he kicked both legs back as he took those golden jump shots became legendary in New York. They would help him reach the All-Star Game in 1968, and bring the Knicks their maiden championship the next season in 1969-1970, when he wore this home jersey. Barnett would win his second NBA Championship with the Knicks three years later, ultimately staying on as an assistant coach to Red Holzman after his playing days were over. In the back inside left tail of the jersey is the “Gerry Cosby” manufacturer’s tag. Adjacent are the size “44” and “69” year tags. Across the front is "NEW YORK" in orange on blue tackle twill. Below that and on the back is the player number "12" in the same tackle twill. Across the back is the player name "BARNETT" in blue tackle twill. Autographed on front in black marker and rates an 8. In the back inside waistband of the matching home shorts is the “Gerry Cosby” manufacturer’s tag. Attached is the size “38” flag tag. These shorts are not Dick Barnetts. The uniform shows good game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. The autograph is accompanied by a LOA from JSA.
