Hall of Famer Bill Bradley excelled at basketball from an early age. At the end of high school, the 6-5 forward had 75 college scholarship offers to choose from, but he ultimately decided to overlook them all by attending Princeton. There, he averaged 30 points per game on the freshman team before being named as an All-American in each of his three years on the varsity squad. To those accolades Bradley would add a gold medal at the 1964 Tokyo Games and a 1965 NCAA Player of the Year award. Upon graduation, the future three-term U.S. Senator accepted a Rhodes scholarship to study at Oxford, during which time he played his first professional ball with Olimpia Milano, helping the team to capture a European Champions Cup. The experience only served to whet his appetite for the NBA, where he landed with the New York Knicks for the 1967-1968 season. From early on, Bradley’s work ethic impressed everyone around him. As a pro, that work ethic would take a few years to breed success, but it did so in a big way during the Knicks’ 1969-1970 story book season. After racking up a then franchise best regular season record of 60-22 and advancing past the first round of the playoffs for the first time since 1953, the Knicks found themselves matched against the mighty Los Angeles Lakers in the Championship Series. With an injured Willis Reed playing through pain in Game 7, Bradley and an inspired Knicks squad would motor past the Lakers 113-99 to claim their first ever NBA Championship. That win has since been voted the most memorable moment in Madison Square Garden history. Bill Bradley wore this jersey on the floor in that amazing championship-clinching Game 7 at the Garden. Every starter on that team has since had their jersey retired by the Knicks, including Bill Bradley’s number 24, which still hangs high above the Garden floor. No player will ever wear that number again for the Knicks. In the back inside left tail is the “Gerry Cosby” manufacturer’s tag. Adjacent are the size “44,” “L,” and “69” year tags. Across the front is "NEW YORK" in orange on blue tackle twill. Below that and on the back is the player number "24" in the same tackle twill. Across the back is the player name "BRADLEY" in blue tackle twill. The jersey shows good game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. Accompanied by a Letter of Provenance, stating how this jersey was obtained in the locker room following the clinching game. Jersey remains in unwashed condition.
