Native Philadelphian and Hall of Famer Tom Gola came to national attention in 1954 as a 6 foot 6 inch All-American forward at La Salle University. Before graduating to the NBA in 1955, Gola collected both a NCAA Championship in 1954 and a NIT Championship two years earlier in 1952. He was named the tournament MVP in each of those seasons. From early on in his career, Gola was regarded as a very versatile forward who could not only shoot and score, but rebound and defend with just as much skill. Added to that were the superior ballhandling skills of a guard, which, given his size, made him a rare talent in the NBA of the 1950s. On the heels of his college success at La Salle, the Philadelphia Warriors used their territorial pick to select the popular Gola in the 1955 Draft. His rookie season in 1955-1956 brought immediate success, when he averaged 9.1 rebounds and 5.9 assists a game and helped the Warriors to their second franchise championship. In 1959, Wilt Chamberlain, another native Philadelphian, joined Gola with the Warriors and the duo would take the team to two more NBA Finals appearances before the franchise moved west to San Francisco in 1962. This Philadelphia Warriors game-used road jersey was worn by five-time All-Star Tom Gola in the 1960s when he was first breaking into the league. On the inside left seam is the "Pearson" manufacturer’s tag with the size “44” flag tag. Across the front is "PHILA." Below and on back is the player number "15." All of the lettering and numbering is done in white tackle twill with a tan Swiss embroidery. The jersey shows excellent game-use and there appear to be no alterations of any kind.
