The first to travel the globe in defending his title, Tommy made 11 title defenses despite often being the betting underdog due to his size. He changed sports forever by being the first man to allow an African American a shot at the Heavyweight crown.This letter is hand written by Burns in black fountain pen and is dated July 14, ’47. The letter has been cut at the bottom and glued on to a black piece of paper for display in an autograph book. Also included is a 5" x 4" black and white photo signed and inscribed "To Joe Fisher Tommy Burns in this garden 1947" in black fountain pen rating an 8. The photo has been glued to a black piece of paper for display in an autograph book, on the same page as the letter above. Accompanied by his business card and a LOA from JSA for the signature.
