Perhaps no modern-day pitcher has been as durable and consistent as Nolan Ryan. In 27 big league seasons, Ryan set the standard for excellence by striking out an average of 245 batters per year to end with a record 5,714 in his career. Ryan also pitched an astounding seven no-hitters, with two of them coming during the 1973 season. In all, he won 21 games that year and it would be the first of only two times that he would surpass the mark of 20. In 1973, Ryan struck out an astounding 383 batters, the modern day single season record, which is almost certain never to be touched. That season, 1973, was also the first year of the DH, making Ryan's strike out record that much more impressive. On the front tail is the "McAuliffe" manufacturer's tag. Adjacent to this are the size "44," year "1973," and wash tags. Across the front is "Angels." Below on the left and on back is the player number "30." Across the back is the player name "Ryan." All of the letters and numbers are done in red on navy blue tackle twill. On the left sleeve is the “State of California” patch. The jersey shows very good game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. An additional LOA dated May 12, 1993 will be provided stating that the jersey originally came from a team source.
