Thompson was the number one draft pick of both the ABA and the NBA in the 1975 drafts of both leagues. He eventually signed with the ABA's Denver Nuggets. Thompson and Julius Erving were the finalists in the first ever Slam-Dunk Competition, held at the ABA All-Star Game at McNichols Sports Arena in Denver in 1976. Thompson made the NBA All-Star Game four seasons, and reached his peak in 1978 season. On April 9, 1978, the last day of the regular NBA season, Thompson scored 73 points against the Detroit Pistons. He also led the Denver Nuggets to the NBA playoffs, but they lost to the eventual Western Conference champion Seattle Supersonics. On the left front tail is the "Powers Mfg. Co." manufacturers tag with the jersey size "42" on it. Above is the "Powers" tag with "1" L-B" on it. Across the front is "DENVER" done in white on yellow tackle twill. Below on the front and on back is the player number "33” also done in white on yellow tackle twill. On the back is the player name "THOMPSON" done in white tackle twill on a blue nameplate. On the back inside waistband of the shorts is the "Powers Mfg. Co." manufacturer's tag (faded). Written on this tag is the player number "33" in black marker. On each leg of the shorts is the “Nuggets” logo patch. The uniform shows good game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
