In 1971, Monroe was traded to the New York Knicks and formed a celebrity backcourt with equally flamboyant Walt Frazier. The duo meshed together to form one of the most deadly guard combinations of all time, featuring two Hall of Famers and NBA 50th Anniversary Team members. With Monroe, the Knicks won the 1973 NBA championship. A four-time NBA All-Star, Monroe retired after the 1980 season due to serious knee injuries, which plagued him throughout his career. He had played 926 NBA career games, scored 17,454 total points (18.8 ppg) and dished out 3,594 assists. On the left front tail of the jersey is the "Sand Knit" manufacturer's exclusive tag that reads "Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the New York Knicks" with the jersey size "42" flag tag. Adjacent is an additional "Gerry Cosby" distributors tag. The player number "15" appears on the front and back in maroon on blue tackle twill. The team name "KNICKS" appears below the player number on the front in the same tackle twill. The player name "MONROE" appears across the back in maroon on blue tackle twill. The jersey is autographed on the back number in silver marker with “The Pearl” added and rates a 9. The jersey shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. The autograph is accompanied by a LOA from JSA as well as a LOA from Steiner.
