During the summer of 1992 in Barcelona, Spain, the United States Men's Olympic Basketball team, known simply as the "Dream Team," not only went undefeated and won the Gold Medal but will go down in history as the greatest collection of basketball talent to ever step on the court. They averaged an Olympic record 117.3 points per game and won each game by an average of almost 44 points. Everyone agreed that this team would be unbeatable, and it was. That summer, Michael Jordan was the key figure in forming the Dream Team. The 12-member roster was full of the era's best players including Charles Barkley, Larry Bird, Clyde Drexler, Patrick Ewing, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Christian Laettner, Karl Malone, Chris Mullin, Scottie Pippen, David Robinson and John Stockton. Jordan averaged 12.7 ppg as Team USA rolled on in the semis with a 51 point win over Lithuania. Jordan led the way in the gold medal game against Croatia, scoring 22 points. Jordan, Ewing and fellow Dream Team member Chris Mullin are the only American men's basketball players to win Olympic gold as amateurs (in 1984) and professionals. On the front tail of the jersey is the "CHAMPION" exclusive tag, which reads "Designed & Tailored Exclusively for 1992 Summer Olympic Games." Next to that tag is the "CHAMPION" size "46" manufacturer's wash tag. The inside inseam has two tags, "100% NYLON" tag, and another tag "3" EXTRA BODY LENGTH." Across the front of the jersey is "USA" in red and blue screen print. Below that and on the back is the player number "9" in red on blue screen print. Across the back is "JORDAN" in red screen print. On the front left shoulder is the "C" Champion logo patch. The jersey shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. This jersey was given to a famous L.A. designer directly from the Jordans. A detailed letter of provenance will accompany this lot.
