HOFer Walt Bellamy was the starting center on the gold medal-winning American basketball team at the 1960 Olympics. Ten of the twelve college players on that undefeated squad went on to play professionally in the NBA. The first overall NBA pick in 1962, Bellamy had a stellar 14 year career; he was named the NBA Rookie of the Year in 1962 after having arguably one of the three greatest rookie seasons in history. His 31.6 ppg average that season is second all-time for a rookie only after Wilt Chamberlain's 37.6, Bellamy also led the NBA in field goal percentage in his rookie season, and had a 23 point, 17 rebound performance in the All-Star Game. One of the most coveted players of his era, Bellamy was an exceptionally skilled offensive force and defensive stopper. Playing in 1,043 of 1,055 games (98 percent) during his pro career, Bellamy compiled huge statistical numbers. His .516 shooting percentage, largely based on dominating, yet agile moves in the paint, was third best in league annals. In the collar of this jersey is a tag that reads "BELLAMY" (handwritten) with a wash instructions tag underneath. In the inside back tail of the jersey is written "73" denoting the year. Across the front of the jersey is "HAWKS" in red on yellow tackle twill. Below that and on the back of the jersey is the player number "8" in red on yellow tackle twill. Across the back of the jersey is the player nickname "BELLS" in the same tackle twill. The name on back has been professionally restored. The jersey shows tremendous game-use and besides the restored name on back there appears to be no alterations of any kind.
